High School Diplomas
High School Diplomas Versus GEDs
When a person completes the requirements of high school, they receive a high school diploma. High school diplomas are the basic requirement for many entry level jobs. Sometimes, circumstances in a person’s life require them to drop out of high school before earning their diploma. A person who doesn’t complete high school can take a GED (or General Educational Development) test in its place.
Advantages Of A High School Diploma
Studies have shown that people who finish high school and earn their high school diplomas are far likelier to be successful in college. People who complete their GED, instead of receiving a high school diploma, are much more likely to drop out of college. In fact, only 15% of people who receive a GED finish college; this is compared with 65% of people receiving their high school diplomas.
However, dropping out of high school and failing to complete a GED test can make a person ineligible for many jobs. High school diplomas are required for a huge range of entry level positions. Sometimes, even a GED is not acceptable in lieu of a diploma.
The Importance of High School Diplomas
Parents and educators must do everything they can to encourage students to complete school and earn their high school diplomas. These documents can make starting off on a career path much easier. Also, acceptance to major colleges and universities is far higher among people who hold high school diplomas. Completing high school is therefore a very important goal for all students.
